Just as Zac said, just do it right the first time. I know from experience that using stock springs plus an aftermarket cam == dropped valve and trashed motor. Most say right around .500 for stock springs though (.480 iirc). If your gonna do a cam, atleast order a matched set of springs and have'em professional installed.

May 20, 2004 · Will this give me any problems with the stock vortec valve springs? Cam specs: Crane Energizer hydraulic flat tappet 272* advertised duration and .454 lift. 1.5 ratio stock stamped self aligning rockers. Stock length pushrods.
